CNC Turning & Milling
Turning centres, machining centres and vertical lathes for cylinder and breaker components.
Turning and milling
Most of what we make is a turned part with secondary milled features. The capability that matters is therefore the swing and length of the turning centres, the travels of the machining centres, and whether both can be done without re-fixturing.
Where the drawing allows, related features are cut in one set-up. Every additional set-up adds a stack-up error that no amount of inspection removes afterwards.
Capability
| CAPABILITY | ORISE VALUE |
|---|---|
| Maximum turning diameter | Ø600 mm on the CNC turning centres |
| Maximum turning length | 8000 mm between centres |
| Machining centre travels X / Y / Z | 1000 / 500 / 500 mm |
| Maximum part weight on the machine | 1200 kg |
| Bar capacity | Ø65 mm through the spindle |
| Live tooling and Y axis | Available on the turning centres used for piston, gland and rod-end work |
| Repeatable diameter tolerance | ±0.02 mm up to Ø120 · ±0.035 mm from Ø120 to Ø300 |
| Repeatable Ra as turned | Ra 1.6 µm · Ra 0.8 µm on a finish pass |
| Positioning and repeatability | 0.004 mm positioning, 0.001 mm repeatability on the turning centres |
| CAM and programming | Mastercam, SolidWorks and AutoCAD |
| Accepted drawing formats | PDF, DWG, DXF, STEP, IGES, native SolidWorks |

Fixtures. For repeat-order components we build and keep the fixture, so the second order is faster and dimensionally identical to the first. Fixture cost is quoted separately and openly.
